Our Group

The group was formed in the 1950's with the help of the local Catholic Church and was a Church sponsored group. At various times over the years the Scout Hut has been extended, modernised and improved. The group has enjoyed varying degrees of success during its early year, accumulating a variety of photos and memorabilia showing the changes over the years, these together with other items have been donated to the County archive, these are held at the county offices at Well End Activity Centre where they will be preserved.

Once into the 1990's things began to decline as the numbers of Cubs and Scouts dropped.  It was decided that the two local groups should merge to form one large group, this became the 2nd & 7th. At this time the Group stopped being a Church Sponsored Group. It is now open to all, any nationality, race, religion, boy or girl. From being shaky at the end of the 90's and early 00's the group went through rapid change. Leaders left and were replaced, much needed repairs were carried out to the hut, some are still ongoing. The group moved forward and now enjoys a thriving Beaver Colony, two nights of Cubs and a strong Scout Troop, all supported by a growing number of dedicated leaders and helpers.

At the present time the group has 3 active sections, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts all taking part in a variety of activities and camps. For those who aren't outdoor people there is a strong indoor program to satisfy and stretch them, although we do try to encourage them to take part in outdoor activities.
