Cubs are young people between the ages of 8 - 10 ½, both boys and girls.

The program is structured towards outdoor activities, with more opportunities to camp and enjoy the likes of shooting, archery, climbing, canoeing and night hikes.

More emphasis is given to the traditions of Scouting than at Beavers. Cubs will learn to do things for themselves, put up tents, light fires and map read to name but a few., They also take part in creative activities at the hut, such as arts & crafts.

Cubs take place on Tuesday and Thursday evening at the Scout hut in Woodhall Lane and runs for 1 ½ hrs, this is in the grounds of Our Lady’s School. The same basic program is run on both evenings. If in doubt of how to find us have a look at the find it maps section of the site.

The section is led by Akela, the leader in charge who has a number of assistant leaders and helpers, all who have undergone The Scout Association CRB checks and training. If you ever have any questions or concerns then Akela is the person to talk to

It has become normal for the Cubs to have the chance to attend at least three camps during the year, usually a weekend at May half term, then a week in August during the summer holiday and another weekend in October during half term. Previously we have had teams taken part in the District Cub Night Hike.

During their time in Cubs, for some as long as 2 ½ years, they have the opportunity to earn a vast assortment of Activity badges, 5 Challenge badges and 6 stage badges, all of which are appropriate to their age group. Some will be earned working as a group, others whilst on camp and a few they can do at home. The final achievement is earning their Chief Scouts award before moving to scouts.
